I was in the 5th grade and we had started writing with pens… something new….always exciting…!!
So what pens can I use for writing??
May be a china pen (very famous during those days… as my friends would agree) or may be a pilot pen… gel pens were a new and expensive concept then… ball pens were out of question for most school kids… so that’s about it!!!
Few options…. easy decision!!
Compare the same with my nephew’s options today… 10 types of gel pens with a thousand different options for inks… names and types of ink pens are beyond what I had ever heard of…
So now if I want to buy a new pen…
I have around a 125 options (exaggeration ofcourse)…..!!
How do I know which one is the best option??
Mostly through other’s experiences…. and may be through the shop keeper’s recommendation (translation: something with a higher margin)
I decide on something… and when I start using it I figure that the product is good but has some issues… may be the other option was better… may be this isn’t the best quality available…
So I spend a lot of time in choosing a product… and I spend even more time cribbing that it is not the best buy….
This seems to be the scenario for most things these days…. Food… apparel… luxury… and the list can go on
May be it is a good thing… you have a lot of options… obviously it means a lot of competition amongst the sellers… which usually places the customer on the better end… so quality and price both are favourable.. also the internet ensures that we are well informed about all our choices.
Then… may be its not that good after all….
So many options tend to confuse me further… I may like more than one option, in which case I may end up having doubts about my choice… in case the product in question doesn’t fit my requirements I end up tagging myself as an unsatisfied customer….
The same theory may applies to everything else.. like selecting a joint for lunch… a destination for a holiday… for that matter even selecting a job or a career path
Nostalgic moments…
Good old days…. world was a large place to live in…. Social networking wasn’t even around… having an email account proved that I am a pro with computer…
Choices were limited…. What I had in mind was exactly what I would get…product features being a small pool… less choices meant lower expectations thus higher satisfaction in most cases…
May be we do have a lot of options these days…. tons of applications in the android store and blackberry store giving you options to explore the world…
May be the world is a healthier place to live in… and I guess it’s a thrill in its self when you have so many things to choose from…
But I still cant stop wondering which one was better….
Researching for 30 days…. doing all the ground work required…. spending 30k on a smart phone with all the features… and still wondering….if I should have chosen the other brand…
Or…
Being a good girl for the longest of time….. Convincing parents to shell 3k…. buying a Nokia 1100 with zero features except a snake game…. And still flaunting it to everyone who cares to bother????

Muahhhaaaaaaaa!!!!
Here's my view to it,
Life is better today. With so many things to choose from I might be stuck in choosing the correct option but I know one thing for sure.. Its called as 'knowledge'... today I know thousand things which in the prior world were not even remotely possible.. this hunt for the best choice is some where inculcating a huge amount of knowledge in us. Knowledge which makes us what we are today!!
nice in one sentence out of the box and pens is a good option but every day we look at the idiot box...so u knw where options are difficult to choose.
Nice blog sharing information
The growth of consumerism is truly scary. Maybe the present restlessness in society the world over is a reflection of a need for balance and return to simplicity.
